Character name: Issun
Fandom: Okami
Timeline: Before Amaterasu embarks the Ark of Yamato after it rises out of Lake Laochi
Age: I assume from his mannerisms, twenty or something in that range for his kind. They can live past the age of humans, but remain tiny and age more slowly.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: He has his sword, Denkomaru! Which is a tiny little katana that he knows how to use and slice some things up with despite the size. It also comes with a brush, and he’s a pretty good painter. Issun has the ability to use two Celestial Brush techniques: Rejuvenation (fix broken objects), and Greensprout (blooming flowers and cleaning up patches of dead scenery). He can’t use them to the extent that Amaterasu can, but that’s because she’s god (and he’s not the best student). Also, he can jump really high, much like a cricket, and has a surprising amount of strength to lift items twice his size in the game.
How would they use their abilities?: To save his tiny butt from the perils of evil, and gain attention from all the lovely ladies. Seriously though, he’s a decent enough dude to help out people. Maybe he can have a temper to wield that sword at people, but for the most part, he’s harmless.
Appearance:

Because he’s only an inch in height and combined with his beetle hat, people easily mistake him for a bug. He even glows sorta like a firefly! Close-up though, he looks like a boy with a katana at his side, purple kimono and boots. With fair skin, dark hair & eyes, he’s a typical Japanese kid at abut 1/1000th the size.
Background/Personality:
Issun is a Poncle. They are a race of miniature people who live in Northern Nippon and hidden away from most of the world. However, they can understand the voice of gods, something that humans lost the ability to do do over the years due to waning faith. Poncles have the duty of encouraging that faith. One in particular is the Celestial Envoy. They accompany the great sun goddess Amaterasu on her travels, and use art and paintings to spread word of her influence on the land. However, 100 years before the events of the game, Amaterasu takes a mortal wound in a major battle against the serpent Orochi, losing her physical form. In that period, Isshaku, her Envoy at the time, continues his work, though it is definitely more difficult without the goddess. When he became too old to continue, he tries to pass on his skills to a successor, his grandson. A villager notes that he very hard on him, to the point that his grandson runs away, saying that he never will become an Envoy. That would be Issun.
As fate would have it though, he ends up meeting Amaterasu. He became a self-proclaimed “wandering artist” after that bout with his grandfather, and wound up lingering in sleepy Kamiki Village, mainly in the kimono of the village’s guardian sprite, Sakuya. When she resurrects Amaterasu from her century-long slumber, Issun joins the pooch to learn the Celestial Brush techniques and become an even better artist. This means a whole bunch of various adventures and mishaps.
Issun is the source of commentary for much of the game. He always has something to say, for anything and everything Ammy can examine. It can range from sheer amazement to mocking a sign with poor spelling. He’s excitable and boastful, loving adventure and has the attention span fitting his size. Things that distract him include treasure, and pretty women. Following with his expressive nature, he can’t help but comment on any dame’s... assets. Go figure, Japan. But he has a good soul despite his perverted tendencies. For one, he serves as a sort of conscience for Miss Ammy, giving her advice or warning her of possible danger. He’s not the brightest bulb, but he’s got some common sense from traveling. Issun has a strong sense of justice, and is unwilling to let someone suffer when the duo can help them. Because of it, this leads to a lot of sidequests, such as one helping a girl avenge her father or helping a boy save his dog. He’s a good bug at heart, really!
However, he is very straightforward and even stubborn about his feelings, like his distrust of the half-baked prophet or his flat out refusal to enter Ponc’tan. It’s a bit hard to change his opinions, but he’ll accept the facts if they’re present. Easy to frustrate, there’s also a temper that hates it when he’s not in the loop about info and going-ons, which is why he dislikes the cryptic Waka. He likes it when things are simple. A sensitive spot of his are topics concerning family matters, due to his strained relationship with Isshaku, and the truth that he’s a young individual who ran away because he can’t handle pressure. There are times in the story where he’s doubtful and wary of the things Amaterasu must do. However, he grows to trust her as a valuable friend, and in his own way, regards her as highly as he’s supposed to.
Why should that character be in this game: For OCs only.
Why do you want to continue their history here: For characters from other games only.
For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play:
Have you read up on how the game works?:
Fire Ferret allows communication on the Guide network, and money can be made through missions, owned businesses, or being a criminal. The last one isn’t advised.
1st person sample:
That was the biggest waste of paper and ink, ever! And what the heck do they mean our world was destroyed?! We were working hard on not letting that happen!
[Someone’s not happy. But... where is that someone? Guide’s are supposed to have owners that suffer from accidental broadcasts. Well, there’s something small and green bouncing around on a table-]
For a place full of weird looking people, they aren’t very accommodating for smaller sizes. I can make a tent outta this Guide thing. One of those Vogons even grabbed for a fly swatter when he saw me, geez...!
[Well there's our answer. People watching the Guide, meet Issun, a bite-sized package of refugee. He’ll be running out of complaints soon, and when he does, he just looks around for something. Which, or rather, who... he doesn’t find, either.]
Out of all times to leave a guy stranded... Ammy, ya big lazy furball!
[The feed times out.]
3rd person sample:
Issun’s thankful for unnoticing aliens and various delivery carts. Otherwise, it would be hours before he could reach his room. Another boring day goes by (well, one of the waitresses was total babe at least), and he hops onto the coffee table, where a towel makes for a nice place to sit down.
He’s not a deep, reflective kind of guy. There’s not really a need to think heavily on things in his opinion. Stuff comes at you, and then you take it head-on. That’s how it was back then. But back then, there was a lovely world he lived in. He doesn’t want to believe it was destroyed. What happened to Kushi, or the Princess Fuse? What about Sei-An City, or even Ponc’tan? He refuses to believe they’re gone like that, without even a notice beforehand.
“Ugh, feeling all depressed and filled with questions won’t do me any good.” He looks around the room, trying to think of something to do. Something fun, and exciting... like the new planet! He’d heard bits and pieces about valuable treasure there in some old ruins. Admittedly, it’s hard to explore without his canine friend, but she wouldn’t want him to bore to death, right? When she or anybody else from their world arrives, he could also tell them cool stories of his adventures! He’s now off the table and out through the door before he even realizes it. Now all he needs is ride to the shuttle area.
